FAQ's

1. I want to commission a portrait or other painting – what now?

Please contact me by email or telephone to outline your requirements and I will set up an initial consultation session (Otley area only) if you would like it and provide a final quote. Once you give the go ahead you should pay the deposit and we will agree a timescale.

.

2. What should I consider when choosing a photograph?

-Select the best quality photograph, digital or snapshot. Digital should be no less than 100kb resolution and snapshots no smaller than 6”x4”.
-Photos should be clear and sharp, avoiding harsh lighting. It is best to provide me with a selection and I can help you choose. -Try to choose a picture that captures the essence of the subject. -I can visit and take photographs for you if you prefer and I have a large library of nature photographs so you can choose something from there.

3. How do I decide on a canvas size?

This is a personal choice but I recommend the 16” x16” square canvas’s for simple head and should portraits. Smaller than this may loose impact. A square canvas is a modern look and looks great hung directly on the wall without the need for framing. Any size is possible – just ask for a quote.

4. What canvases do you use?

All paintings are on high quality, heavyweight canvas stretched over wooden frames. I tend to use deep edge canvases (38mm) which means there are no staples or rivets visible on the sides. These look fantastic hung directly without the need for framing. Other canvas sizes and standard edges are available – just ask.

5. Can I request changes to things in the photograph?

Within reason – please discuss what you want with me and I will tell you if it will work and if it will be possible.

6. Do I have to buy the finished product?

No – you will pay a 20% deposit but you only pay the remainder if you are happy with the finished product.

7. How long will it take?

Depends on the size and complexity and how busy I am! I would say from as little as 3 weeks to a couple of months. This will be confirmed during our initial consultation and I will endeavour to meet your needs as much as possible.

8. Do you do black and white?

Yes – no problem.
